Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band are a go big or go home type of band. Everything they do sounds like it was made to fill up a vast open space, and it does. Their intricate and sprawling songs usually span several minutes and are full of wide, sweeping instrumentals, making for quite a dynamic live performance.

When Forsyth and the band were touring across the pond this February in support of their latest album Dreaming In The Non-Dream, they recorded their show at London’s Cafe Oto. A few highlights from the show were then compiled into an EP that they’re calling Rare Dreams: Solar Live 2.27.18, out now digitally. The EP’s winding, expansive tracks draw from Forsyth’s two most recent, philosophically-titled albums, Dreaming In The Non-Dream and The Rarity of Experience — but sandwiched between two of Forsyth’s 15-minute instrumental jams is an unexpected but totally welcome cover of Neil Young’s “Don’t Be Denied.”

Listen below. Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band will fill the smaller space that is PhilaMOCA next Saturday, May 12 with Sunwatchers — and if the new release is any indication, the show will be full of surprises. Find more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.
