Start your day with Mitski’s burning new ballad “Two Slow Dancers”
Mitski | photo by Bao Ngo | courtesy of the artistFor the first single from Mitski’s forthcoming album, she went epic and orchestral. For the second, she hit the dancefloor.
This morning, the indie rock singer songwriter brings us to the end of the night, long after the lights have come up, long after the doors are locked, long after everybody else has moved on, and all that remains are “Two Slow Dancers.” The song is withdrawn and contemplative, a solitary Rhodes-sounding keyboard as the scene is set with an estranged couple reunited in a high school gymnasium and reflecting how “it would be so much easier if we were young again.”
As Mitski reflects in a press release:
They used to have something together that is no longer there and they’re trying to relive it in a dance, knowing that they’ll have to go home and go back to their lives.
Mitski’s latest record Be The Cowboy is out via Dead Oceans on August 17th, and her U.S. tour in support of it comes to Union Transfer on October 19th. Tickets and more info can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Listen to “Two Slow Dancers” below.
