Long Hots is blistering with aggression on their new tape Monday Night Raw
Philly rockers Long Hots just dropped their first official tape, Monday Night Raw, which delivers exactly what the name promises — raw, unpolished basement recordings blistering with aggression and aggravation. In “Die Die Die,” fuzzy distortion and abrasive vocals culminate in a punk anthem that teems with loathing. The nine-minute-long “Boogie Trance” experiments with warped instrumental solos that stretch endlessly over a low-groaning bassline and punching drums. The digital version of the tape ends on a cover of “Slippin’ and Slidin'” by Little Richard, done in the style of The Velvet Underground’s Moe Tucker (as heard on her 1982 album Playin’ Possum).
Long Hots guitarist and songwriter Rosali Middleman was a solo artist prior to forming this band with bassist Kathryn Lippman and drummer Eva Killinger as a vehicle for catharsis in mid-2017. Middleman recently released her sophomore LP Trouble Anyway; check out her guest DJ set at XPN here.
You can grab a physical copy of the tape at their show at Philadelphia Record Exchange on September 14th; get more information here, and check out Long Hots’ fall tour dates below.
