Watch The War on Drugs cover Tom Petty's "Straight Into Darkness" with Frances Quinlan, Tim Heidecker, and Jelloman - WXPN | Vinyl At Heart
The War on Drugs at The Tower | still from video

Last night The War on Drugs tied a ribbon on their three-night Drug-Cember to Remember run of Philadelphia shows, showing their hometown some serious holiday love while raising money for Fund for the School District of Philadelphia.

In a treat for the capacity crowd at the Tower, the Drugs dug deep for a Tom Petty cover from his fifth album Long After Dark. Joining them on “Straight Into Darkness” were opener Frances Quinlan of Hop Along on tambourine and vocals, comedian Tim Heidecker (who MC’d the Drug-Cember gigs) on guitar and vocals, and Paul “Jelloman” Vile on harmonica (we assume he had a board of Jell-O shots waiting for everyone backstage).

Watch video of the cover below, and check out our coverage of opening night with The War on Drugs at Johnny Brenda’s here. That show featured The War on Drugs covering John Lennon’s “Mind Games,” plus Heidecker playing the harmonica lead on “Arms Like Boulders.”
