Watch The Cactus Blossoms serenade the polar vortex in their "Got A Lotta Love" video - WXPN | Vinyl At Heart

Winter storms shut down the midwest last week, but for Minneapolis natives The Cactus Blossoms, a bit of snow and ice is par for the course. With their second studio LP Easy Way on the way on March 1st via Walkie Talkie Records, the band set out into last week’s polar vortex to shoot a music video for “Got A Lotta Love” in central Minneapolis’ Bockley Gallery, not far from Lake of the Isles.

“A good friend of ours was kind enough to let us use his gallery space to shoot this video,” says the band’s Page Burkum. “When we heard a blizzard was headed way we thought we might have to call the whole thing off but everyone showed up and the snow made a beautiful backdrop.”

The easygoing, romantic song from the new record was co-written with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, and features Burkum and his co singer and songwriter Jack Torrey paired up at a vintage microphone, delivering warm and inviting classic pop harmonies in the spirit of Simon & Garfunkel and The Everly Brothers, while bandmates Phillip Hicks on bass, Tyler Burkum on electric guitar, and Jeremy Hanson on drums back them up along the storefront window. Watch it all breeze by below.

The past twelve or so months have been very good to The Cactus Blossoms. Their tastefully retro style caught the ear of David Lynch, who had them perform in The Roadhouse as the credits rolled in episode 3 of Twin Peaks: The Return.  They also toured with Kacey Musgraves and Jenny Lewis, and performed at Newport Folk Festival and Lincoln Center in New York. This Friday, they take to the stage at World Cafe Live for WXPN’s Free at Noon concert — RSVP for tickets here — and in April, once the midwest has thawed, they’ll head out on a North American tour in support of Easy Way. Full dates can be found below, including a Philadelphia stop at Underground Arts. Tickets and more information on that show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
