Preservation Hall Jazz Band doc A Tuba To Cuba will screen at The Rotunda next month
“You get more out of life when you believe in building bridges,” says Ben Jaffe of Preservation Hall Jazz Band in a trailer for A Tuba to Cuba. The 2018 documentary film traces the New Orleans Brass Band’s travels across the Gulf of Mexico and to the island nation that contains so much of their musical heritage. As Jaffe points out, truly understanding the music on New Orleans means understanding the music of Cuba.
A Tuba to Cuba makes its Philadelphia debut in a CinéSPEAK Presents screening at The Rotunda on Thursday, April 11th. In the film, we see the always-excited members of Pres Hall drumming on the walls of buildings, jamming with Cuban musicians, and generally seeming elated to be part of an outreach trip as they travel across the island to Santiago de Cuba.
Watch the trailer below. The screening is free, but you must RSVP; more information can be found at Facebook.
