Dylan Jane re-emerges with a moody, mysterious single “Fever”
After a stint of three years without new releases, singer-songwriter Dylan Jane has immersed herself back into the folk-rock scene, with the release of her single titled “Fever” on May 22nd. Her most recent EP, Deceiving Yourself and Everyone Else was self-released in October of 2016, and this new single is in anticipation for her new EP Half the Battle, which is set to release June 10th. It’s cover art is blunt and evocative, featuring an illustration red human heart with a knife stabbed through the center.
“Fever” begins as a somber ballad with lightly strummed cords, and as the song builds, distorted bass and warped electric guitar add to the mysterious mood. This all transpires as Dylan Jane tells of needing to exit a relationship, but feeling as though she is unable to leave. She sings, “My feet won’t move, I reach for you.” The anguish she feels is easily detected through her lyrics. The song has a certain underlying vulnerability to it, a likely theme for her upcoming record.
Next Wednesday, May 29th, Dylan Jane will be performing alongside IVA & the New Young at World Cafe Live upstairs; tickets and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Listen to “Fever” below.
