The Roots’ Black Thought has just appeared on underground rapper Benny The Butcher’s newest single, “Crowns for Kings,” going head to head with the rapper. The single comes from Benny’s newest album, The Plugs I Met. Each rapper brings their best game over the thumping Hip-Hop tune.

Benny and Black showcase some amazing lines on this cut. When he was asked how he got a verse from Black Thought, Benny said:

“The same way: I hit him up. I know from mutual parties that these dudes are tapped in and aware of the music, so it’s not like I’m shooting in the dark. The top-tier artists of the game are always tapped in. That’s why you can see a dude like Drake do a song with a BlocBoy JB. So I tapped in with him and he hit me right back. The joint was fire and the chemistry was crazy.”

Whether it’s the “Put a Benz in a brick, and toss that back in the blender” or Thought’s “try to cop more rides than Great Adventure” line, both MC’s are heard spitting clever wordplay about their respective come-ups. Their impeccable lyricism and vocal styles compliment each other very nicely. They rhyme for what seems like forever over the wild DJ Shay-produced beat.
