Philly rapper Meek Mill has had a wild career. Following run-ins with the law from his youth and into his adulthood, Mill has seen the dark side of the legal system and is ready to expose its flaws. Teaming up with Jay-Z, Mill has just announced Free Meek, a five-episode docu-series chronicling Mill’s fight for exoneration in his legal case while exposing the broader flaws of the U.S. criminal justice system.

As Meek, his family and his legal team fight for his freedom, cameras capture the birth of the #FREEMEEK movement and the launch of the REFORM Alliance, an initiative focused on fixing the U.S.’s probation and parole systems. The investigative series will follow Meek and his supporters as the story of corruption against Mill unfolded, and will feature new information uncovered in the investigation led by Luke Brindle-Khym and Tyler Maroney of Quest Research Investigations, who were also featured on HBO’s The Case Against Adnan Syed.

In November 2017, Mill was sentenced to 2 to 4 years in prison after being arrested for popping a wheelie in New York City. With the charge dismissed, Judge Genece Brinkley still sentenced Mill to prison in Pennsylvania for other technical probation violations, marking the second time she incarcerated him for probation violations. The ruling and Meek’s imprisonment sparked massive outrage among supporters, with many seeing Meek’s sentencing as evidence of America’s broken probation and parole system, in which members of the Black community are incarcerated at nearly six times the rate of whites.

Free Meek will be available on August 9th through Amazon Prime Video. Check out the trailer below.
