What’s better than one Country superstar? Four!

Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Amanda Shires, and Natalie Hemby, some of the biggest names in Country, have come together to form The Highwomen. The band’s name is a play on that of the 1985 group, The Highwaymen. The Highwomen are the perfectly named answer to the male domination of Country music. Their mere formation, as well as their new single, celebrates women and all their strength.

“Redesigning Women” our first taste of The Highwomen’s upcoming self-titled album, due September 6th via Low Country Sound. The song goes through all that women are capable of and their ability to adapt to all kinds of different circumstances. Its thesis is the opening line of the chorus which goes “redesigning women, running the world while we’re cleaning up the kitchen.” With that line, and the ones that follow it, The Highwomen proudly acknowledge the strength and impeccable time management skills women possess.

In addition to the four women in the band, The Highwomen features many Country heavy hitters. Sheryl CrowMiranda Lambert, Tanya Tucker, Lori McKenna and more make appearances. The video for “Redesigning Women” also features some big names. Tanya Tucker, Wynnona Judd, Cam, and others pop up in the Elizabeth Olmstead- directed clip.

The Highwomen will make their live debut at Newport Folk Festival on July 26. They have yet to announce a tour as a band, but in the meantime, Carlile and Morris are both headed to Philly this fall. Carlile will play The Mann with Mavis Staples on Friday, September 6th. The following day you can catch Maren Morris at The Met Philadelphia. Find tickets and information for both shows on the XPN Concert Calendar.
