Watch Great Time strut their stuff across West Philadelphia in the “Rushin” video
Philly electro-pop outfit Great Time makes music for breezy climes and sunny days, which makes their new music video for “Rushin'” quite apt on this glorious, bright Friday.
The song has a disco funk bounce in the vein of Natalie Prass’ sultry slow-jammer “Short Court Style,” and the music video features bandmates (multi-instrumentalists and producers, all) Jill Ryan, Zack Hartmann, and Donnie Spackman strutting the streets in tight trio formation all across West Philadelphia. We see them gliding by the Desi Chaat House on Baltimore Avenue, following the path of the 10 Trolley on Lancaster Avenue, skipping over tree roots around Spruce Hill, and striking superhero poses in front of The Rotunda.
Ryan tells The 405 that the song and video are a means of self-empowerment:
At times it’s hard for me to feel confident in my own skin – I think a lot of people feel that from time to time. Writing this song and filming the music video had me feeling empowered and confident yet silly and carefree. I’d love the viewers and listeners to sense and feel that as well.”
Give the video a watch below. Though they’re not a folk band by most definitions, Great Time will play the Philadelphia Folk Festival on Saturday, August 17th for Helen Leicht’s Philly Local Showcase on the Camp Stage. Tickets and more information can be found here. We hear they’re also doing a thing at some other radio station tonight at 5.
