Local punk duo Coping Skills recently released an EP of covers they have recorded from over the past five years. Beginning with a 2014 version The Moldy Peaches’ “Anyone Else But You” (popularized by the film Juno) and featuring a 2017 cover of N*SYNC’s “It’s Gonna Be Me,” the Sad Mattress EP travels up to 2018 and their rendition of Death Cab for Cutie’s “Death of An Interior Decorator.”

The Philadelphia duo of Rachel Dispenza and Lauren DeLucca shared this compilation of covers following some slight remixing and editing; they say their main goal for this project was to “use what we’ve learned to make [the covers] all a little better,” and to highlight their “growth, changes, and half a decade of collaborative friendship.”

The band also used Sad Mattress to highlight another one of the band’s strengths — clever banter. The final track is 51 minutes of commentary about the songs, the meaning of the project title, and life in general.
