Bethlehem and Sad Patrick have the “Day After Valentine’s Blues”
Valentine’s Day can be a beautiful thing or a total bummer, depending on where you’re at in life, and that contrast is reflected in the new single from local folk duo Bethlehem and Sad Patrick.
“Day After Valentine’s Blues” sets the scene with half-price boxes of chocolates and unfresh flowers, marked down balloons and happy couples, and one person at the bar who doesn’t have that other person, and who can’t escape the feeling that society forces on us (especially around February 14th) that you need that other person to complete you.
Bethlehem Roberson sympathizes with that person, and conveys what they feel in cutting lyrics: “They’ve all got their better half / Their warm embrace, their loving glance / And when are you gonna find yours.”
Take a listen below. Bethlehem and Sad Patrick have two New York City appearances this month: on Tuesday, February 18th, they’ll play life on WNYC’s All of It with Allison Stewart, and on Friday, February 28th, they’ll be at Freddy’s Bar in the South Slope section of Brooklyn. Their next Philly-area appearance is at Swarthmore’s War3house 3 on Sunday afternoon, March 1st. Details on all upcoming gigs can be found here.
