Vita and The Woolf’s new album Anna Ohio comes out May 8th on Tender Loving Empire
Philadelphia-born, California-based electronic rock outfit Vita and the Woolf will release its sophomore album Anna Ohio this spring.
The project of singer-songwriter and producer Jennifer Pague, Vita captured the Philly music scene’s attention in 2014 with their Fang Song demo; their debut album Tunnels was released in 2017, and they toured the U.S. extensively in support of it, relocating across the country in the process.
In all that uprooting and relocating, much was left behind for Pague, which is an overarching theme of Anna Ohio. The new song “Operator,” out today, is about her beloved dog Xena, who Pague adopted while living in Fishtown and who followed the band on tour (even making a cameo in the band’s Audiotree set). Last year, Pague had to find a new home for Xena, and “Operator” reflects on that parting of ways.
“It’s about dealing with those emotions of cutting ties, making sacrifices, and leaving behind the past in order to move on to a new place in life,” she writes in a press release. For the music video, Pague turns this loss into a sci-fi adventure. “The video is about getting lost in outer space, searching for Xena. After an almost deadly space crash, we land somewhere new and strange—meeting lovely aliens and eating space BBQ.”
Two years in the making, Anna Ohio comes out May 8th on Tender Loving Empire, the Portland indie label that also released music by indie luminaries Y La Bamba and Andy Shauf. The album can be pre-ordered here, and Vita and The Woolf’s spring tour has them headlining Johnny Brenda’s on Saturday, May 9th; tickets and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
