April’s Artist To Watch is Early James.
The Birmingham, Alabama based musical project is the work of Frederick James Mullis Jr. and he’s the latest signing to Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound label. James’s debut, Singing For My Supper is a collection of songs informed by the blues and rock and roll – a sort of electrified, Southern Fried, Americana. It’s an impressive group of songs that brings to mind – at times – J.J. Cale, Mark Knopfler, and Tom Waits.
Recorded at Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound, Singing In My Sleep was produced by Auerbach and David “Fergie” Ferguson. Philadelphia-based artist and musician Perry Shall designed the album packaging.
