Philly artists Madalean Gauze and Garden Gate teamed up on a short project this spring, the digital split Dead Horse where they covered cuts from one another’s catalog. They describe it as “An album of spooky, beautiful songs created by two friends who love and appreciate each other’s music.”

Madalean Gauze opens the set with a nervy rock reinvention of Garden Gate’s “Spiral Staircase” that’s very reminiscent of Bat For Lashes, while Garden Gate tackles two Madalean Gauze songs in one, the feverish punk “HAHA!” and “Who do you fall in love with?,” rendered gently through atmospheric harpsichord melodies and soft drums.

The split also includes surreal cover art designed by Garden Gate’s Timmi Meskers. Listen below.
