Sadie Dupuis just announced that her second full-length album as Sad13, Haunted Painting, will be released September 25. The singer, songwriter and guitarist, who also leads the band Speedy Ortiz, is putting out the new record on her own label, Wax Nine. It features album artwork by her mom, Diane Dupuis.

“I worked on Haunted Painting throughout 2019, writing, arranging and recording from home, then finishing the songs in studios around the country in between Speedy’s fly-in dates,” Dupuis shares in a press release. “It’s maximalist, and more true to me and my tastes than any record I’ve done.”

The lead single “Ghost (Of A Good Time),” out now, revisits Dupuis’ formative DIY years — she calls it a “party song about not going out” that speaks to the introverts among us. She also shared a video to go with it, directed by Elle Schneider while social distancing. Watch below.

Haunted Painting is the follow-up to Sad13’s 2016 debut Slugger. The album was made exclusively with women engineers, and features guest vocals from Roberto Lange (Helado Negro), Satomi Matsuzaki (Deerhoof), Merrill Garbus (tUnE-yArDs), and Rick Maguire (Pile). Pre-order it here.

The Key recently checked in with Dupuis to see how she’s been holding up during the pandemic. Listen to the interview here.
