Watch Reef the Lost Cauze and Caliph-Now rock a virtual show from the Ortlieb’s stage
“We haven’t had the chance to rock in a while,” Reef the Lost Cauze tells a camera crew at Ortlieb’s. “So this feels great.”
The veteran Philly rapper is back with his longtime DJ Caliph-Now for the second time during the pandemic in the new Two For You video — they previously teamed up in May on Reef’s Stay AT Home concert, synced up virtually from Todd’s Philly studio and the Sea Isle City garage of Reef’s relatives.
The gig from Ortlieb’s finds them sharing a stage and performing an entirely different set, mixing currents, classics, and covers at a high-energy pace. Reef leans into his delivery, strutting the stage, screaming as he spits, catching his breath between bars, feeding off the energy of the virtual crowd.
Opening on the super hype, Lykke Li-sampling “Like A Shotgun” from Reef the Lost Cauze Is Dead, the setlist gives shouts to birthday boy DJ Bear One on “Giacana” from The Majestic, talks about navigating bumpy roads on the driving Emynd-produced banger “The Puzzle” from Invisible Empire, and teases a verse and chorus of Thundercat’s infectious “Dragonball Durag.” The set also features “Massive Your High,” another one from …Is Dead about living life to the fullest, and the Majestic single “Stay Golden.”
Give it a watch below, and grab the audio at Bandcamp. Reef the Lost Cauze plays the Philly Culture United concert on October 1st, raising mutual aid funds for Black musicians and gig economy workers in Philadelphia. Details and information on that event can be found here.
