Philly’s Brittany Luna, frontperson of the ska / rocksteady / powerpop band Catbite, teamed up with California’s Mike Park of Asian Man Records for their collab single “You Feel Like You’re in Quicksand.”

The song is a wonderful blend of both musicians’ styles, with a catchy lead guitar, a subtle touch of sax, and ska-tinged rhythms. Luna’s charming vocals meet Park’s lower, brief register to form a complimenting contrast that accentuates one another throughout the track.

Lyrically, the track speaks to constant battles that keep pushing you down, hence the analogy to quicksand. Park spoke about the track via his Instagram: “These past 7 months have been insane for me. It feels like groundhogs day meets twilight zone meets a bad dream. So much toxicity and anger and hatred and fighting. This song kind of sums up the way I’ve been feeling. Hope you’ll give it a listen.”

Park recently joined forces with Augusta Koch of Philly Rock gigs Gladie and Cayetana for a cover of “Cool Places,” originally by synthpop icons Sparks. Catbite has kept busy throughout the COVID stretch, with a plethora of live performances. Check out “You Fell Like You’re in Quicksand” below.
