The Avalanches and Leon Bridges reminisce on “Interstellar Love”
The Avalanches‘ eagerly awaited third studio LP, We Will Always Love You, has just received a new collaborator, Leon Bridges, on the upcoming album’s latest single, “Interstellar Love.” Bridges, a Fort Worth, TX native, released “Sweeter” and “Better” earlier this year. The Avalanches’ Robbie Chater said that working with Bridges was on his “all time wish-list”; the collaboration feels effortless, with Bridges’ soulful vocals grounding the cosmic, spacey track back on Earth.
“Interstellar Love” is inspired by the romance between the late astronaut Chris Hadley and his wife, Ann Druyan. It’s a floaty track, full of love and rich emotion: the thematic reference is remarkably clear, as a looping sample of the Alan Parson Project’s “Eye in the Sky” orbits the mix.
