Singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman was last night’s musical guest on Late Night With Seth Meyers, making an election season statement while performing her classic “Talkin’ ‘Bout A Revolution.”

Though Chapman rarely plays live these days, she sounded incredible, her voice resonant and filled with as much emotion in 2020 as it was when she recorded the song for her self-titled album in 1988. And though the lyrics were written to capture the social and political sense of unease and unrest in the U.S. in the late 80s, they nevertheless feel apropos in 2020.

In the song’s final chorus, she changed the lyrics from “Talkin’ ’bout a revolution, oh no” to “Talkin’ ’bout a revoution, go vote.” As the last chord rang out, Chapman stepped to the side of the microphone, revealing a “Vote” sign behind her.

“This is the most important election of our lifetime,” the singer-songwriter wrote on Facebook. “It is imperative that everyone vote to restore our democracy.”

Polls are open in Pennsylvania until 8 p.m. today; visit votespa.com for information on how to vote. Watch Chapman perform on Seth Meyers below.
