In November, Jack Antonoff released a new set of singles under his indie pop project, Bleachers. Those singles, “45,” and “chinatown,” are rare gems of nostalgic bliss, with earnest lyrics and Antonoff’s signature anthemic hooks. “chinatown” especially takes heavy inspiration from Bruce Springsteen’s brand of synth-heavy heartland rock, and features The Boss himself on backing vocals and guitar.

Earlier this week, Antonoff and Springsteen released a live performance of the track, recorded on the the roof of Electric Lady studios. Along with a backing band, both men are clearly thrilled to be performing the track: Antonoff’s goofy smile throughout is utterly infectious. The song is full of a quiet yearning (“Take the sadness out of Saturday night,” “I wanna run,” “I wanna find tomorrow”) made all the more impactful by the lack of vocal distortion on the original version.

“chinatown” was recently named XPN’s Gotta Hear Song of the Week. Check out the live performance of Bleachers’ “chinatown” (ft. Bruce Springsteen) below.
