West Philly Porchfest will return this year on Saturday, June 5. The beloved community event was canceled last year because of the pandemic, but with a brighter summer ahead of us, it’s high time for some outdoor music.

By nature, Porchfest allows audiences to keep as much distance as necessary, while still bringing the community together. Front porches across the neighborhood become open-air stages for local musicians that represent the community’s musical and cultural diversity, and listeners can roam from set to set at their leisure.

Last year, Porchfest organizers postponed the event for what they thought would be a few months — not a full year. But the statement they shared a year ago rings even more true after a longer period of isolation than any of us anticipated:

“Our hope is that this year’s Porchfest – whenever it happens – will serve as a great community-wide celebration of collectively conquering COVID-19! It will be a chance for people in the neighborhood to come out and have an incredible day of not only music, but re-connection with friends and neighbors celebrating being together. We think it is going to be a memorable celebration and we are looking forward to helping all of you porch people put it together.”
