April is National Poetry Month, and to celebrate Philadelphia’s influence on the world of poetry — specifically, spoken word — WHYY will present a virtual event featuring local masters of the craft. Spoken Wordsmiths: Celebrating Philly Poets takes place this Wednesday, April 28 at 6 p.m.

Spoken Wordsmiths will be hosted by WHYY’s Community Contributors and Engagement Editor Chris Norris and Community Curator Amir Bey Richardson (also known as The Bul Bey). They’ll be joined by a panel of local poets including Cydney Brown, Eli & Lu Bevins, Selina “Cvgebird” Carrera, Debra Powel-Wright, KD Morris, and Reynald Williams, who will discuss their works and inspirations and show us how poetry helps us understand the world around us.
