It’s quality and quantity for this week’s batch of newly released albums. St. Vincent emerges with a glam-tinged new sound on Daddy’s Home. Once again working with producer Jack Antonoff, the album is warmer than the mechanical MASSEDUCTION, but with no less bite. Celebrating their favorite blues and rhythm slingers, The Black Keys pay tribute to John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, and more on Delta Kream. British singer Jorja Smith delivers her Be Right Back EP as more than just a teaser; it shows off the young artist’s experimental production prowess. Beloved purveyors of New Zealand guitar pop, The Chills return with Scatterbrain, Martin Phillipps’s third full-length with his resurrected group. Prolific saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings releases the third dispatch from his Sons of Kemet project, Black to the Future. On Excelsior!, Johanna Samuels is joined by Courtney Marie Andrews, Lomelda’s Hannah Read, and more for a rich and rewarding set. A versatile member of Woods and Quilt, John Andrews’s third solo album as John Andrews and the Yawns, Cookbook, is a feast for fans of his assorted collaborations. Philly favorite Eric Bazilian’s first solo album in years, Bazilian, collects the Hooters co-founder’s recent singles alongside new bits of optimistic power-pop. Lastly, Juliana Hatfield gives her reliable songwriting a contemporary edge on Blood, her 19th solo album. PRESS PLAY on these new releases and more below…
