Today UK-based jazz four-piece Sons Of Kemet released Black To The Future, their third full-length album and first for revered label Impulse! records.

Through a heady range of tones, from ambient to Afrobeat to classic bop, the band — led by sax player Shabaka Hutchings and featuring Theon Cross on tuba, as well as percussionists Edward Wakili-Hick and Tom Skinner — channels rage and frustration in the face of Black oppression and dreams of a better future.

In a press release, Hutchings calls the album “a sonic poem for the invocation of power, remembrance and healing. It depicts a movement to redefine and reaffirm what it means to strive for black power.”

Along with the record’s release today, the band announced a 2020 North American tour that brings it to Underground Arts on Monday, March 28th. Tickets are on sale now, though announcements for concerts at this point are subject to change due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Underground Arts does not have any COVID-specific information on their website yet, but keep an eye on their social media for more.
