Michelle Zauner will be signing copies of the new Japanese Breakfast album and her memoir at Repo Records on Wednesday, June 2, at 6 pm. The event is two days before the release of Jubilee, but fans who attend will be able to purchase a copy of the record early.

Jubilee is a celebration of the passage of time. Stepping away from the sadness of 2017’s Soft Sounds From Another Planet, Zauner finds herself approaching a new era of festivity. “After spending the last five years writing about grief, I wanted our follow up to be about joy,” Zauner said in a statement when the album was announced

This joy is automatically evident in the three singles that she has already released. There’s a level of playfulness to her experimentation that balances out even the darker moments like the blood-covered “Posing In Bondage” video. The groovy glam-pop on “Be Sweet” and quirky concept of “Savage Good Boy” feel like sunshine after a rainstorm. While there are still hints of longing and loneliness, they seem to be overshadowed by the radiance of hope.

Copies of her memoir, Crying in H Mart, will also be available for purchase at the event on Wednesday. An instant New York Times best-seller, Zauner discusses growing up Korean American, her mother’s battle with cancer, and her path to self-discovery. Full of unflinching honesty, heart-wrenching loss, and lots of Korean food, it’s an intimate look at her life.
