Last we spoke to New Jersey native Martin Courtney, singer-songwriter and guitarist of the indie rock band Real Estate, he was at his home in the Hudson Valley of New York, where he was self-isolating with his family, setting up his studio equipment in the basement, hoping for some creative productivity during the quarantine but generally looking to maintain some sense of normalcy as well. “I’ve been listening to a lot of classical music, trying to keep it calm in the house,” he said.

That was back in March of 2020, when he had a conversation with WXPN’s Dan Reed for his ‘Checking In With’ series, which was all about reaching out to our extended musical family to see how they’re holding up during the Coronavirus quarantine…and what music has kept them grounded.

A little over one year later, Courtney joins us LIVE from New York for a Virtual Free At Noon Concert. In 2020, Real Estate release their album, The Main Thing, and just a couple of months ago followed up with a release of some additional songs from those sessions. The EP, Half A Human, is out now. And on Friday, June 4, Martin Courtney plays live. Listen or watch the live video webcast at xpn.org.
