The Woodlands will become an outdoor performance venue again this summer. After some socially distanced shows there last year, Ars Nova Workshop has partnered with the West Philly cemetery / arboretum for the joint New Grass project, which will bring a variety of events to The Woodlands’ grounds over the coming months.

Grammy-winning choir The Crossing will kick off the series this weekend, performing “we got time.” by composer, sound artist and jazz saxophonist Matana Roberts that honors the life of Breonna Taylor. Performances run from Friday, June 11 through Sunday, June 13. Tickets are available through the Annenberg Center, with discounts available for West Philly residents.

Upcoming programs also include The 2nd Annual John Coltrane Symposium, the community dance piece “Rise & Reconcile,” performances and discussions with Odean Pope, Immanuel Wilkins, William Parker, Chad Taylor, and more. Find more information at arsnovaworkshop.org.
