The pandemic messed with Mannequin Pussy‘s touring plans, but the band is finally hitting the road this fall. They’ll headline their biggest hometown show yet at Union Transfer on October 29.

In May, Mannequin Pussy released their new EP, Perfect, which was inspired by last year’s social isolation and the internet-fueled anxiety that came with it. Missy Dabice told our Sam Kesler in a recent interview that the title track was inspired by “The grief feeling for all the people whose lives have been upended and, and people who are like losing their lives mixed with the election, mixed with all these things, and then at the same time, trying to present yourself as this very perfect together person.”

“It was just like realizing this is the most time I’ve ever spent online and there’s still that pressure to really manicure your life and present it to people on a very palatable platter. Like, “Don’t I look so perfect? Isn’t everything so perfect?” And I’ve never felt less like that, last year.”

Mannequin Pussy gained attention recently when a fictionalized version of the band was featured on HBO’s Mare of Easttown. Angourie Rice stars as the leader of a DIY band called Androgynous in the suburban Philly-set show, and performs Mannequin Pussy’s songs. Read the story behind how it all came together here.

Mannequin Pussy will be joined by Angel Du$t and Pinkshift for the show. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 18 — find more information here and keep an eye on Union Transfer’s website for updated COVID safety guidelines. Mannequin Pussy will also open for Japanese Breakfast on three of their four shows at Union Transfer this August, and will headline Phantom Power in Millersville in July.
