Total Rubbish will finally play a show at Ortlieb’s that isn’t empty. Over the summer, the band recorded their music video for “Honey Ryder” at the bar, but due to social distancing restrictions couldn’t have anyone in the audience. This time around, they’ll be joined not only by a huge crowd but fellow Philly artist Catherine Moan. The doubleheader brought to you by local label Born Losers will take place July 10.

Forming over quarantine and releasing their debut EP, Triple Negative, back in November, Total Rubbish haven’t had many opportunities to play live. However, after their show at Sunflower in May, it’s clear that they know how to command the stage. Doom and gloom shoegaze their tracks are simultaneously razor-sharp and fuzz-drenched. Even their more ethereal moments possess subtle violence as Cass Nguyen’s switch-blade vocals cut through lush instrumentals.

A match made in heaven, Catherine Moan will also bring her dark synth-wave to Ortlieb’s. Paying homage to early Depeche Mode and the vocal delivery of Strawberry Switchblade’s Rose McDowall, her shadowy electro-pop is drenched with 80s influence. Absolutely alluring, her latest single, “Body Work” was destined to be danced to under the dull red lights. Her new album and Born Loser’s debut Chain Reaction will officially be out in September. Resulting from a year spent in her bedroom immersed in the internet, it’s a digital love story and a way to cope with excessive solitude.
