The summer is heating up, in-person concerts are getting back on our collective Google calendars, and while we’re excited for this era of unprecedented times to be behind us, we aren’t done with Unprecedented Sessions! The local music livestream collaboration between WXPN, Cherry-Veen Zine and Power Cycle Productions returns next week with Episode 9, starring local artists Ellen Siberian Tiger and Sweet Pill.

Ellen Siberian Tiger was founded in Boston by songwriter/guitarist and vocalist Ellen Tiberio-Shultz, and when they moved to Philly a half dozen years ago, the band began to take shape around them, coalescing into a propulsive progressive / art-rock project in the spirit of Wye Oak, St. Vincent, and Pattern is Movement. For this performance, Tiberio-Shultz is joined by drummer Richard Straub and keys player / bassist Collin Dennen; the band released the terrific Cinderblock Cindy LP last summer, and this livestream performance is the first time they’ve performed together since its release. They’ll also be at the Shady Grove Music Festival on July 10th (more here).

Born in the basements of Glassboro, New Jersey, spirited indie five-piece Sweet Pill made a big splash on the Rowan University scene before making the jump across the Walt Whitman Bridge to Philly. With dynamic vocalist Zayna Youssef at the front, the band is comprised of guitarists Jayce Williams and Sean McCall, bassist and vocalist Ryan Cullen, and drummer Chris Kearney, and they sonically draw inspiration from Paramore, Algernon Cadwalader, Mannequin Pussy, mewithoutYou, and so many more. They’ve had a few releases on the indie imprint Know Hope Records (the “Miss This” / “Tell Me” single being a fave) and will play the Summer Jawn show at Love City Brewing on July 31st with Ali Awan, Great Time, and Mandala (more here).

Filmed live at the Anti Flower Show Movement house in South Philadelphia, Ellen Siberian Tiger and Sweet Pill’s Unprecedented Session airs Thursday, July 8th, at 8 p.m. ET via Facebook live on WXPN, Cherry-Veen Zine, and the artists’ pages. Find more information and RSVP for reminders over at the Facebook event, and check out past performances by both bands below.
