Courtney Barnett is lost in everyday deep thoughts on “Rae Street”
Melbourne, Australia rock and roll singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett returns this fall with her third studio album Things Take Time, Take Time, and the XPN favorite released a music video for its first single this week.
“Rae Street” is a languid jam that follows a stream-of-consciousness line of thought as Barnett lays out things observed and feelings felt over the course of a regular day. The music video, directed by W.A.M. Bleakley, shows Barnett at home alone, strumming an acoustic guitar and singing. Sometimes her lyrics are about the screaming family next door, sometimes they’re about dogs she encountered in town, and sometimes they’re more worldly: “Light a candle for the suffering. Send my best wishes with the wind. All our candles, hopes n prayers, though well-meaning they don’t mean a thing, unless we see some change.”
Things Take Time, Take Time is out November 12th on Mom + Pop Records, and can be pre-ordered and pre-saved here. Courtney Barnett and Jacklin play The Met Philly on Friday, February 4, 2022. Tickets and more information on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
