Wasting no time settling into his new home at Verve Records, Philly’s Kurt Vile recently released a cover of a track by one of that legacy label’s highest profile rock artists (and one of his own inspirations): The Velvet Underground.

His grizzly rendition of “Run Run Run” from The Velvet Underground & Nico takes the wiry garage rock energy of the original and Vile-fies it spectacularly. It will appear on a new compilation called I’ll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute to the Velvet Underground and Nico which presents a front-to-back cover the album by artists like Michael Stipe (“Sunday Morning”), Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen (“Femme Faale”), St. Vincent and Thomas Bartlett (“All Tomorrow’s Parties”), and Courtney Barnett (“I’ll Be Your Mirror”).

The album is out September 24th on Verve and is available for pre-order here, with special editions and signed copies available here. Listen to Vile’s cover and check out the full track list down below.
