After teasing news this weekend with some cosmic pickup-truck-on-a-country-road footage, Philly-born rockers The War On Drugs announced details on their fifth album today. I Don’t Live Here Anymore is out October 29th on Atlantic Records, and its opening track — a burning ballad called “Living Proof” — is out now.

The song’s music video, which you can watch below, was shot on 16 mm film by Emmett Malloy and captures band leader Adam Granduciel in action at Panoramic studio in Stinson Beach, California, one of more than a dozen places that the album was recorded.

The label’s announcement says I Don’t Live Here Anymore finds The War On Drugs meditation on “resilience in the face of despair,” and core bandmates Granduciel, bassist Dave Hartley, and multi-instrumentalist Anthony LaMarca began writing it during an upstate New York woodshedding session. From there, it was recorded with co-producer/engineer Shawn Everett at spots like Sound City in Los Angeles (where Granduciel lives these days) and Electric Lady in New York.

I Don’t Live Here Anymore can be pre-ordered here; check out the cover art and track listing below. The War on Drugs also announced a lengthy North American and European tour for winter and spring of 2022, kicking off in Austin on January 19th and featuring back-to-back nights at The Met Philly on January 27th and 28th. Tickets are available through the band’s website.
