On a recent afternoon, Philadelphia songwriter and beatmaker Kilamanzego strolled the sunlight-dappled streets of her West Philadelphia neighborhood, and the results are a music video for her new song “Meditate.”

The song is a slight contrast with Kilamanzego’s previous work; while it is still very vivid and fast-paced, the bass hits here feel a bit more subdued, the lead textures gliding and gentle. “Meditate” in a way shows a softness to Kilamanzego, which is perfect for a song (and video) she describes as a search for peace of mind.

In the YouTube description of “Meditate,” Kay writes that her friends — camera operator Wren Rene and director Rashid Zakat — rented a new camera, and were looking to try it out. “This music video wasn’t planned at all,” she says. “It just so happened he had a really nice cam for the day and I stopped by at the right time.” It was a perfect day, and she edited and color graded the resulting footage into the gorgeous video you can watch below.

The song is also available on Kilamanzego’s Bandcamp for $0.50 — pick it up here.
