Earlier this year, singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus asked her fans for help making a new music video.

“Brando,” the second single from her new album Home Video, features deep personal reflections but also a danceable beat, so Dacus asked her fans to submit videos of them dancing to the song (as well as “skateboarding, ice skating, roller blading, and the like”).

The resulting video is out today, and the casual smartphone-shot look very much works with the overall Home Video aesthetic. We also learn a few things.

Cats do not, repeat, do NOT enjoy dancing for the camera.

A number of ballet dancers and figure skaters factor into Lucy Dacus’ fan base.

It’s not impossible to find snow to twirl around in during the months of June and July.

Dogs DO enjoy dancing for the camera.

Lip syncing while biking seems oddly exhilarating, but use caution if you try it at home.

Lucy Dacus fans are very fun.

Announcing the “Brando” release today, she said “These videos brought me a lot of joy and made me feel more connected to the song and all of you.” Watch below, and don’t miss Lucy Dacus next month when she plays Union Transfer on October 20th and 21st; night one with Shamir is sold out but tickets for night two are still available, more information at the XPN Concert Calendar.
