WXPN’s year-long project Kanaval: Haitian Rhthms and the Music of New Orleans concludes on January 9th with Philly’s first Kanaval Ball, a free event at The Fillmore Philly that brings together musicians, dancers, food vendors, and special guests.

Today, we’re able to announce who those guests are: Michael Brun, an award winning DJ and producer from Haiti, based in New York, and Win Butler, frontperson of Arcade Fire and co-founder of New Orleans’ Krewe du Kanaval celebration, a source of inspiration for XPN Kanaval’s project.

DJ Sets with Brun and Butler will feature in the Kanaval Ball, which also includes non-stop music performed by the Port-au-Prince based mizik rasin bands Boukman Eksperyans and RAM, as well as perennial New Orleans faves Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The ball also features a performance by Haitian folkloric dance company Nadia Dieudonné & Feet of Rhythm.

The XPN Kanaval Ball is FREE to attend, but you have to RSVP, so do that here. Kanaval is made possible with support from the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage and the Wyncote Foundation.
