Welcome to the Key Studio Sessions three-timers club, Kuf Knotz!

For his latest appearance on our long-running series documenting the Philly music scene, the regional MC shows off a collaboration that’s been the focus of his energies for the past several years — a duo with harpist and singer-songwriter Christine Elise.

Active since 2016, Kuf and Christine use the fusion of richly-textured electronic beats and cascading harp, of laid-back bars and soaring singing, to take their brand of rap / pop / alternative music from clubs to record stores to folk festivals and meditation spaces. Indeed, the songs they play are contemplative, addressing personal journeys (“Magic”) and mindfulness (“New Days”), seeking inner peace (“Breathe”) while acknowledging the difficult road to get there (“Cycles”).

Many of the songs they play come from their 2021 LP Ké myōōnėdé (that’s pronounced “Community”); some are appearing in a recorded form for the first time here. As the calendar year winds down and mindfulness is on all our minds — this year especially — Kuf Knotz and Christine Elise have a few more chances to connect with them: on Sunday, December 19th, they play Ghost Harbor Creative in Asbury Park (where the duo hangs their hat these days); on Tuesday, December 21st, they’ll take part in the 13th annual WXPN Home for the Holidays livestream concert; and on Thursday, December 23rd, they’ll play Ardmore Music Hall with Little Stranger.
