Father John Misty announces 'Chloe and the Next 20th Century' LP, shares decadent "Funny Girl" video - WXPN | Vinyl At Heart

Father John Misty is back, with apocalyptic imagery and cinematic, noir decadence. His new single, “Funny Girl,” is out now with an accompanying accompanying music video teased for several weeks on his previously-blank Instagram feed. His new record Chloe and the Next 20th Century is due out April 8th via Sub Pop Records.

Though singer-songwriter Josh Tillman has previously used his Father John Misty persona as an agit-pop provocateur of sorts, with Chloe we’re beginning to turn over a new leaf. The self-proclaimed “depressing” artist has written about the more sinister perspectives of modern society with irony that’s sometimes too subtle to notice, but if “Funny Girl” is any indication, those perspectives will now mix with a glimmer of hope, courtesy of lush production that includes a whole symphony of brass and strings.
