Lucy Dacus shares “Kissing Lessons” from the ‘Home Video’ sessions, announces summer show with Hop Along in NYC
Did you hear Lucy Dacus’ newest single via a phone call from a number on a street flyer? If this sounds familiar, then you caught the indie rocker’s campaign to release her single “Kissing Lessons,” a missing tune from 2021’s acclaimed Home Video. Otherwise, “Kissing Lessons,” and its music video directed by Mara Palena, is out today.
I went out to get a single tomato from the bodega during a blizzard and happened to see this taped to my local Subway station?!? I was like no way this is a LD promo that would be too coincidental.. BUT IT IS CALL (804) 409-4451 TO HEAR KISSING LESSONS RIGHT NOW!! pic.twitter.com/QvYLDu6JiJ

Like the tracklist of Home Video, “Kissing Lessons” plays out like a page from Dacus’s childhood diary. “We’d take turns being seduced / Imagining the day it would come into use / Imagining the day we’d start breaking hearts / And taking names,” Dacus sings over energetic electric guitar strumming and a soft drum beat. The video captures the nostalgia perfectly, with a set straight out of the early aughts complete with doodles and Polaroid pictures.
“Kissing Lessons,” along with the stripped-down “Thumbs Again,” will be available on limited edition 7” vinyl on June 3rd. Also in 2022, Dacus will tour some previously un-visited cities, with one date at New York City’s SummerStage in Central Park on July 21st with Philly favorites, Hop Along. Tickets are available soon — check the XPN Concert Calendar for more details.
