Tomberlin announces new album with new single “Happy Accident”
Soft singer-songwriter Tomberlin shared “Happy Accident” today, the second single from her sophomore LP, i don’t know who needs to hear this…, out April 29th via Saddle Creek. Following up her delicate and sparse debut At Weddings, idkwnthr promises more of what we love from the Louisville-born, Brooklyn-based artist, with deep emotionality and an all-star cast, featuring Cass McCombs on guitar and Phil Weinrobe on bass and production.
The video for “Happy Accident” shows Tomberlin ducking in and out of her now-home, New York City, interspersed with foggy footage of her trasping around a snowy forest dressed in medieval chainmail and a robe like a fantasy character. “I was kind of walking through moments in previous relationships in my life,” says Tomberlin of “Happy Accident.” “I wanna know why someone wants to get to know me. Do you want to know me or just your idea of me? Do I want to know you or just my idea of you?” Lines like “Do you just talk to me / when you’re lonely and bored?” ring with sorrowful resonance in the song’s almost six-minute journey.
Tomberlin’s upcoming tour begins in April with a long string of European dates before heading back to the US. She will play PhilaMOCA on Saturday May 14th with support from Jana Horn. Tickets and information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Below, watch the video for “Happy Accident.”
