After debuting last year with the beautiful Shadowland LP, Philly band Golden Apples is making a quick return with a self-titled LP, out this spring on Lame-O Records. The latest tune from the album, “Let Me Do My Thing,” is a perfect mix of woozy and hooky psychedelia, calling to mind 90s revivalists The Apples In Stereo, Pavement, as well as influences further back, like Robyn Hitchcock and The Left Banke.
It’s the third single to be released from Golden Apples, which releases April 29th, and it rolled out with a wide-ranging rundown of influences over at Brooklyn Vegan — the list, put together by frontperson Russell Edling, includes books (The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus), visual art (particularly abstract expressionist painter Helen Frankenthaler), and local radio (Edling shouts out WPRB, WKDU, WFMU, and WXPN…hey, thanks Russ!).
Read that whole rundown here, and pre-order Golden Apples the album here. The band celebrates the record on Sunday, April 15th at Johnny Brenda’s; tickets and more information can be found at the WXPN Concerts and Events page.
