It’s been almost a year since Rachel Andie, singer-songwriter of her own project The Vth Element, moved across the world to New Zealand — where she’s played with the Dunedin band Soaked Oats and gotten a gig at the legendary Flying Nun Records. But in the past weeks, the beloved artist and frequent collaborator has returned to Philly, most notably for West Philly Porchfest, where she shared a stage with The Lunar Year, Justmadnice, and Sug Daniels among other local heavy-hitters. While Andie’s in town, she has big news to share: Upfall, the video album to accompany her shining 2018 record Tu Me Manques, will premiere weekly in 11 installments.
The ambitious project is directed by fellow former-Philadelphian and music videographer Skyler Jenkins. Andie and Jenkins have been creating this series for years, and now that it’s time to release, Andie admits she feels anxious about sharing it. “I know that many artists, including myself, go through phases of doubt with knowing when the proper time is to call a work ‘complete’ and ‘ready’ for releasing,” she wrote on Instagram. “I want to share this work as a reminder to all artists that it’s okay to take your time with your art.”
Each of the eleven episodes feature a different song by Andie, and the visuals – at least from what one can gather from the trailer – follow the songwriter through all four seasons, new relationships, even different hair colors. Like Rachel Andie’s music, Upfall will have you in a trance. Watch the trailer below, and follow along every Monday on Andie’s YouTube channel.
