As another month crashes to a close, a bold assortment of new albums come into view. Maggie Rogers returns with a strong set of bedroom pop on her self-assured second album, Surrender. Philadelphia’s Friendship make the jump to Merge Records for Love the Stranger, their fourth set of countrypolitan indie rock. On the deeply personal Take it Like a Man, Amanda Shires confidently asserts her unflinching songwriting.
The denouement of Tedeschi Trucks Band’s ongoing I Am the Moon continues the mystical and soulful threads of its predecessors while setting up the final project’s installment. Mikaela Straus’s second album as King Princess, Hold On Baby, features production from Mark Ronson and the Dessner brothers across its eclectic pop anthems. On their generous self-titled EP as Sun’s Signature, Elizabeth Fraser and Damon Reece conjure abstract atmospheres that play as an update to the sound of Fraser’s beloved Cocteau Twins material. Oh, and in case you hadn’t heard, Beyoncé has a new album out this week, too. PRESS PLAY on these new releases (and more) below…
