The music industry is known for hype and drama and flash-in-the-pan stars who are up-and-coming one day and gone the next. But Belle & Sebastian are an exception. Since releasing their debut album in 1996, they’ve steadily built a devoted fan base, and while they may sometimes fly under the radar, their influence on indie rock and pop since the ’90s is undeniable.
So what keeps Belle and Sebastian so steady and consistent? Well, it’s a combination of things — and frontman Stuart Murdoch will get into that in this session. You’ll also hear live recordings from the whole band, as well as a cut from Belle and Sebastian’s latest album, A Bit of Previous.
