Maggie Rogers channeled the chaos of recent years into ‘Surrender’

If you’ve learned anything from the last few years, maybe it’s that there’s a whole lot outside of your control. That’s something Maggie Rogers understands, too. With Surrender, Rogers is figuring out what she can control, what she can’t and exactly what it means to accept and give in. Because not only is Surrender the title of her album, it’s also the title of the thesis she completed this year at Harvard Divinity School.

In this session, you’ll hear Rogers talk about how her studies and her music intertwine, about how she channeled the chaos of recent years into her songs and about surrendering as a form of rebellion. She also gets into the famous group of songwriters who formed her support group as she was writing the record.
