WXPN Artist to Watch Y La Bamba is back today with news of their latest project; Luche, the band’s sixth LP, due April 28th on the Tender Loving Empire label. The news of the record came with a new track, the meditative “Dibujos De Mi Alma” (Spanish for “Drawings Of My Soul”), which frontperson Luz Elena Mendoza Ramos says in a press release was written for a romantic partner right before the pandemic shutdown in 2020. “It’s a song of longing for this person but at the same time trying to detach myself from the unhealthy parts of connection,” she says in a press release.

On Y La Bamba’s Bandcamp page, Luche is described as “a thematic narrative that explores multiplicity – love, queerness, Mexican American and Chicanx identity, family, intimacy, yearning, loneliness.” In support of it, Mendoza Ramos is taking the band on a spring tour that kicks off in their hometown of Portland on April 26th before coming to Johnny Brenda’s in Philly on May 17th. Tickets are on sale 10 a.m. this Friday, February 3rd, more information can be found at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page. Listen to the new song and check out Y La Bamba’s full tour dates below.
