One of of our favorite Philly music discoveries in recent years is Cosmic Guilt, the stylish Philly roots ensemble fronted by co-songwriters James Everhart and George Murphy and a robust cast of local music stars. We just got word that the band’s second album, Palace of Depression, will be coming out this summer, and the band shared its lead single, “Queen of the Dream.” The song was recorded at Silent Partner studios in Germantown with Matt Barrick, drummer for The Walkmen, and is out now.
Clocking in just shy of four minutes, it’s a jangley acoustic rambler with all the key pieces of a classic Cosmic tune — those rooftop-high harmonies by Jillian and Hannah Taylor, the gliding pedal steel by Zena Kay, the cool percussive shuffle and instrumental accents of glockenspiel and rip-roaring electric guitar, boosting up Everhart’s lyrics of devotion to his personal ideal.
Take a listen below. XPN Welcomes Cosmic Guilt to Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia on March 31st; tickets and more information on the show can be found at the WXPN Concerts and Events page.
