“I’m so sick and tired of hurting,” sings Kenya Vaun on “Overrated,” her debut for 300 Entertainment and a gorgeous slice of hip-hop that’s simple, honest, and relatable as hell.

The single released late last week, and it’s built around a gentle guitar line and a swift beat, as the Philly-born Vaun sings and bars down about coming to the realization that a person she once adored is not worth her time; “you’re overrated” she sings, choosing healing over hype. In a press release, Vaun elaborates on the meaning behind the music:

“For me, I feel like in this generation a lot of people are so ready to just move on. When I was writing this song, I was going through my own situation, and I felt like a lot of times what you’re feeling isn’t unconditional love and it’s just for that moment.”

Watch the music video below; with warm and intimate shots of Vaun at home, then mixing it up with other folks in a park, it moves in step with the song’s straightforward honesty. For more on the artist, who also has ties to New York and Atlanta, follow her on IG at @kenyavaun.
